We’re excited to announce the launch of a brand-new professional development category within The National College which focuses exclusively on governance, helping the governing board steer its strategic course, hold senior leaders to account, and become a real driving force for improvement across its school or setting.

Our comprehensive governance category includes award-winning courses, webinars, policy templates and resources, developed in conjunction with world-leading experts to help governors keep up to date with the latest statutory guidance, best practice and research, achieve compliance with DfE and Ofsted expectations, and understand and apply the principles of outstanding governance.
Role-specific and general training
We offer role-specific and general training for all governors in key areas, from governing board constitution, due diligence, governor recruitment and headteacher appraisals to safeguarding, sustainability and climate change, and mental health. What’s more, we’re constantly updating our content in response to requests from education settings and the demands of a fast-changing world to help governors keep their organisations safe, informed and compliant.
The introduction of our dedicated governance section is part of a broader expansion and rearrangement of The National College CPD library into 12 distinct categories. In addition to governance, new categories include improvement & inspection, admin & finance, staff & recruitment, facilities, health & safety, and subject-specific.
Inform decision-making
Governors will, of course, find training relevant to their role across all 12 categories.
